ABOUT
THE DISC & RECORDINGS:
This latest entry in the Savoy Jazz series
of CDs recorded from Judy's TV series features Judy (and friends) performing songs written for the movies. As an added bonus, we get three performances from Episode #10 with Judy singing songs from The Wizard of Oz with guests Ray Bolger and Jane Powell.
This CD makes for a nice companion to the 2008 Savoy Jazz release "Judy Takes Broadway!". The only issue, again, is that it's so short. "Love Songs" is actually the shortest of the Savoy releases thus far, clocking in at a mere 42:30. This CD is a bit longer at 57:41. Put together with the similarly themed "Judy Takes Broadway!" they basically make one extended CD - but at twice the price as each is sold for the same amount one would pay for a normal length CD.I know I sound like I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I really do feel that more time and money should be spent on obtaining rights to more performances to flesh out these releases. As wonderful as the booklets and John Fricke's liners notes are, I would swap them in a second for more of Judy's performances, which is what these CDs are really all about: enjoying Judy's amazing performances from her wonderful show.
