Another
in the late 70's "Silver Screen Soundtracks Series" which
were the British counterparts to the 1974
M-G-M Records "Those Glorious MGM Musicals" series. Most
of the M-G-M Records soundtracks were released in England under
this series with vastly different graphics, as you can see
here. These were all done in the gate-fold style, opening up
to reveal liner notes and two photos from each film.
Another difference is that while the American editions were in mono, these were
in "simulated stereo" which in those days meant that basically the
bass was high on one channel, and the treble was high on the other, creating
a pseudo stereo effect. Some echo and reverb was added too, to round out the
levels. Sometimes it sounded good, sometimes it didn't.
This particular edition is a good example of M-G-M Record's ownership of the
20th Century-Fox soundtrack to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). Fox
did not have their own soundtrack division, so M-G-M Records stepped up and released
the soundtrack. It appears on many of the "two-fer" and other series
with a variety of M-G-M Soundtracks throughout the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. The
only other known instance of the Blondes soundtrack being paired with Clouds is the 1955
two-fer.
