ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

This deluxe boxed set of four CDs(four LPs in the LP version) is the first of two volumes.  The CD cases are housed in a nice all white box with the simple artwork as shown above.  The inserts for each CD featured the same cover art, with some details about the recordings inside (see below).  The LP version features four records for each volume also housed in simple white boxed with the same cover art as seen above.

All of the tracks are the MGM Records versions of those performances in chronological order by release year. Most of the soundtracks featured are not the complete MGM Records versions but highlights. Some films are represented with many tracks for their soundtrack albums, others not as much.

Judy is only featured in this first volume which includes tracks from all of the MGM Records sountracks of her films from 1946 through 1950.  The sound quality is overall very good.  Some of the tracks have an added echo, which indicates they might have been taken from the masters of the late 70s UK "Silver Screen Soundtrack Series."  Other tracks have a more balanced mono sound. 

A companion to this set is the single  LP/CD compilation "The Best from The M.G.M. Musicals" also released in 1990.

Volume Two features, almost in chronological order, selections from the soundtracks of: The Band Wagon (1953), Lovely To Look At (1952), Lili (1953), Kiss Me Kate (1953), Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954), Hit The Deck (1955), Rose Marie (1954), Deep In My Heart (1955), Brigadoon (1954), Kismet (1955), It's Always Fair Weather (1955), Les Girls (1957), Gigi (1958), Silk Stockings (1957), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964), Goodbye Mr. Chips (1969), The Boy Friend (1971).
