This odd compilation, apparently from the mid-1960's,
was "custom pressed for Alemite CD-2 by
M-G-M Records". "Alemite"
was a "concentrated motor oil detergent". It was common
at the time for companies to have LP's made by record labels
to help promote their product. This one was probably given out
as a "gift
with purchase". The label on the record does not note that
it's any special promotion, being the same as all M-G-M Records
releases of that time, like this
1964 MGM compilation. .
The one Garland track is the M-G-M Records version of
her 1940 recording of "Singin' In The Rain" from Little
Nellie Kelly, even though the cover photo is a rather
stern looking Judy in The
Harvey Girls.
The rest of the tracks are much more contemporary for the time
period. Obviously the company wanted the still marketable Garland
name to help sell their product.
