ABOUT
THIS RECORDING:
On the dates November 6th through 8th 1937,
Judy Garland recorded and filmed the short subject Silent
Night. This was one of the rare
instances of MGM using Judy in one of their shorts. The short
was released during the 1937 Christmas season.
The
song has never been released officially on LP or CD as a "soundtrack".
However, the November 28, 1940 Christmas edition of MGM's "Leo
Is On The Air" radio program which features this version of "Silent Night" was
released on record to radio stations by MGM "for release Dec
15th" (see image above). The entire program runs 14 minutes
and features Judy
and Mickey Rooney "live" from "Santa Claus Lane" (Sunset Boulevard
in Los Angeles, CA) chatting with the crowds and passers-by.
This broadcast was included in the Rhino 4-CD "Judy
Garland & Mickey Rooney" collection.
