Silent NIght
Silent NIght

ABOUT THIS RECORDING:

On the dates November 6th through 8th 1937, Judy Garland recorded and filmed the short subject Silent Night. This was one of the rare instances of MGM using Judy in one of their shorts. The short was released during the 1937 Christmas season.

The song has never been released officially on LP or CD as a "soundtrack". However, the November 28, 1940 Christmas edition of MGM's "Leo Is On The Air" radio program which features this version of "Silent Night" was released on record to radio stations by MGM "for release Dec 15th" (see image above). The entire program runs 14 minutes and features Judy and Mickey Rooney "live" from "Santa Claus Lane" (Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA) chatting with the crowds and passers-by. This broadcast was included in the Rhino 4-CD "Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney" collection.
