CD 2 ABOUT THE DISCS & RECORDINGS:

This is a very nice 2-CD set comprised of tracks from a variety of sources: Decca Records, MGM Records, MGM pre-recordings (Rhino Records versions), Columbia Records (A Star Is Born tracks), and recordings directly from the soundtracks of a few of the films (again, from Rhino Records).

The sound quality is very good overall, although everything has been mixed and/or transferred in mono. Even the tracks that we have in stereo ("The Trolley Song", etc.) are mono. This works on some of the recordings, but not all. The chorus in "On The Atchison, Topeka, And The Santa Fe" sounds very muffled and far away, but luckily Judy's vocal is nicely front and center.

The artwork (see below) in the deluxe booklet is done in that pencil or charcoal look. A bit odd, but still nice that they went to the trouble to do something different. The notes are in both French and English. The packaging is in the tall "booklet" format, same as "The Ultimate Oz" and the "Mickey Rooney - Judy Garland Collection.

s selected tracks from various other Garland MGM soundtracks. A really nice compilation with well written liner notes.

All images on this page from the collection of Scott Brogan.

A special thanks to Lawrence Schulman for purchasing this set for us.
