The title of this album is not listed on the album
jacket, only on the actual record itself. Thus, many people simply
refer to it as "Judy Garland" although its real title
is "If You Feel Like Singing, Sing".
I believe that this is the first M-G-M Records Garland
compilation on a "long playing" 10 or 12 inch record. Two previous
compilations had been released, on 45rpm (8 inch) and 33 1/3rpm
(10 inch).
The cover art for this record has always been one of
my favorites, being a fun collage of Judy from various films. The
collage includes a few photos from "Meet Me In St. Louis" even
though M-G-M Records had yet to include any pre-soundtrack era
(1946) recordings from Judy's films on any of their releases.
This
is an "extended" version of the 10 inch M-G-M Records "If
You Feel Like
Singing,
Sing" (MGM X-268) adding
four
songs
("Better
Luck
Next Time", "If You Feel Like Singing, Sing", "I
Don't Care", &
"Meet Me Tonight In Dreamland") - odd that the 10 inch
would use the title of a song not included on that record as the album title!
