ABOUT
THE DISC & RECORDINGS:
This rare
10" LP from M-G-M Records is one of their earliest "theme"
compilations and is quite difficult to find. M-G-M Records
released a whole series of 10" LPs in their "E" series.
As far as we know, all are from 1950 & 1951. The reverse
side of this album lists other "E" series releases
ranging in number from E-93 (An
American In Paris soundtrack) to E-559
(Show
Boat soundtrack). Of interest is the fact that the album
lists "Kathryn Grayson Sings" (E-551) and "Lena
Horne Sings"
(E-545), but not "Judy
Garland Sings" (E-82), even though Judy
is featured on this album rather than both Miss Grayson and
Miss Horne.
All of the tracks on this record, except Judy's, are studio
recordings that did not appear in any particular films. Judy's
track is her soundtrack recording of "Merry Christmas"
from In
The Good Old Summertime (1949). This is the premiere release of the song. It had previously been omitted from the Summertime soundtrack album.
