As
no official CD release of the soundtrack to Broadway
Melody Of 1938 has ever been released, this is the closest
we have.
Judy's two solo spots, as heard in
the film, made their first appearance on CD in 1990 on Robert Parker's "The
Golden Age
In Digital Stereo", a wonderful compilation of songs from 1930's musicals
digitally remastered.
"Everybody Sing" would
get
it's "official"
release on the 1996 Rhino Records 2-CD set "Judy
Garland
- Collector's Gems From
The M-G-M Films" when the complete extended version was included, along
with
"Your Broadway And My Broadway" and the outtake "Yours And Mine".
These were the original studio pre-recordings previously available on the 1995
laser disc
set "Judy Garland - The Golden Years
At M-G-M". "Dear Mr. Gable" would see it's official CD release on the
1995 Rhino boxed set "That's Entertainment!
The Ultimate Anthology
of M-G-M Musicals", although the ending of the song is from a slightly different
take than the film version. The version as heard in the film would be released
on CD in 1998 as part of the Rhino single disc compilation "Judy
Garland - In Hollywood
Her Greatest Movie Hits".
The sound quality on this CD is comparable to the bootleg
records of the 1960's, 70's and early 80's: Fair to poor.
It's listenable, but it sounds as if one is listening to
a cassette recording of an early VHS tape. Better
to get the compilation CDs listed above to hear Judy's songs
as they should be heard.
