This Decca album could be called the first
"Judy Duets" release! All the songs are, of course, duets except
the last two.
"If I Had You" was used as the "love theme" for Judy's first
straight dramatic film
The Clock (MGM 1945). Judy didn't sing the song in
the film or even during the opening or closing credits.
Judy
and new husband Vincent Minnelli were on their honeymoon in
New York when Judy recorded this and "On The Atchison Topeka,
and the Santa Fe" with The Merry Macs at Decca's New York recording
studios. Even on her honeymoon Judy couldn't get away from
the demands of being MGM's top female star.
The last two songs are actually solo numbers by Judy. Gordon Jenkins was a popular
arranger and orchestra leader of the day.
