ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

From the back of the album:

Cut*!  *cut (kut), (in motion pictures) to edit film by editing unwanted footage. That remaining "unwanted footage" is referred to as an out take.

When this album came out in 1976, it was a Garland Collector's dream! All of the performances were previously unreleased, and most of the performances are by Judy Garland. Never mind that the sound quality was poor on many of the recordings. Collectors didn't mind. Most of us assumed that since they were out takes, the sound quality would naturally be sub-par. Little did we know that pristine recordings were sitting in the faults. They wouldn't see the light of day until the late 1980's when MGM/UA Home Video began releasing some as special features to videos and laser discs. Now we have the Rhino restorations, which are wonderful. But the joy and excitement of buying this series was in finally having the ability to hear Judy sing songs that we had read about for years.

CREDITS

No credits are listed, but Volumes 2 & 3 show that the series was executive produced by Hugh Fordin, author of the massive 1974 book about the Arthur Freed Unit at MGM entitled "The World of Entertainment! Hollywood's Greatest Musicals: The Freed Unit of MGM" - which can still be purchased today on Amazon under it's new title "M-G-M's Greatest Musicals: The Arthur Freed Unit". I urge everyone to purchase this book. It's amazing in its detail and was the "Bible" of MGM Musicals Fans for years.
