This 2020 release is a copy of the 2001 Capitol Records 40th Anniversary
edition. The label's website tates that the SHM-CD format that this new release is presented, SHM-CD means "Super High Material CD), is a superior high definition format that "utilizes a polycarbonate material originally developed for LCD screens, and the enhanced transparency of the SHM-CD results in more clarity, depth and definition of sound, bringing the listener ever closer to the music of the original." Unfortnately, this added layer doesn't add anything to the audio experience at all. This is due to the fact that the 2001 transfer was simply copied, and not remastered for this new HD format. So, the audio is no different than the 2001 release. The added layer on the CD doesn't make the recording sound better, it's the source material and whether it's been remastered to true HD or not that makes the real difference.
