FOR COLLECTORS
M-G-M COMPOSERS COLLECTION(TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY - WORDS AND MUSIC - DEEP IN MY HEART)
Another
laser compilation from our friends at Turner and MGM/UA. Judy made
guest appearances in both "Till The Clouds Roll By" (1946) and "Words
And Music" (1948). "Deep In My Heart" (1955) is NOT a Judy film, but
still fun to watch. All films are remastered, and this is the ONLY
place to find the film footage of Judy's cut "Clouds" number "D'Ya Love
Me?"
Also
included, similar to "The Golden Years" laser set, are the existing
pre-recordings for the films, many in stereo for the first time. Judy's
extended "Who?" recording is here in stereo (the only place to find it
in stereo that I know of).
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT PART III - COLLECTOR'S SOUVENIR EDITION
This
laser set has the "director's cut" of the film "That's Entertainment
III." And that's good for us Judy fans. The extended version of the
film contains the "other" Judy Garland "Annie Get Your Gun" number:
"Doin' What Comes Natur'lly." After the film, Judy's "Mr. Monotony"
outtake from "Easter Parade" is shown in its entirety, using different
takes/angles than the version featured in the "Easter Parade" laser.
Also
included is a documentary about the making of "TE III" with various
behind the scenes shots of Judy. A separate disc contains various
outtakes from MGM Musicals, including Judy's "Last Night When We Were
Young" from "In The Good Old Summertime" (1949), and "My Intuition"
from "The Harvey Girls."As with the other laser special editions, this
one contains many audio takes of songs from many MGM Musicals, several
of Judy's films are represented here as well and these recordings can
be found in the Rhino releases of Judy's film soundtracks (see the ).
The set is packaged with beautiful lobby cards (see picture above), a
two poster mail in offer (which I sent in and it was worth it!), and a
small booklet.
MGM WHEN THE LION ROARS
The
absolutely best documentary about the best of the Hollywood studios.
Three tapes, and Judy is heavily featured. Many reminices from co stars
and contract players and tons of clips. A factinating look into what
made MGM "the Tiffany of the Business."
IT'S ALL FOR YOU - THE LAST YEARS 1965-1969
The sound quality of this release is not the greatest, but it includes several performances not available anywhere else.
HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS - LORNA LUFT AND JUDY GARLAND
This
rare CD came out several years ago. It contains just a few songs,
notably Lorna singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" as a
"duet" with her mother's 1944 Decca recording. The disc contains a
short and long version of the duet, as well as a medly of songs by
Lorna alone. Their voices blends wonderfully together and one gets the
impression that Lorna has much respect for her mother's memory and
talent.
THE COMPLETE DECCA MASTERS
Judy's
complete Decca Records sessions. Beautifully packaged, remastered and
inclusive of many alternate takes and recordings never before released.
When listening to these recordings, one gets the chance to hear Judy
grow as an artist from a "Vaudeville belter" to a great singer.
THE ONE AND ONLY
Not
a complete record of Judy's Capitol recordings, but this fantastic 3 CD
set is a wonderful compilation of Judy's albums and live performance of
the 1950's and 60's. Disc one "In The Studio" is a compilation of songs
from Judy's Capitol albums. Disc two is a compilation of various live
performances, many never before released. And if that isn't enough,
disc three is the first time on CD release of the famous "London
Sessions." There have been rumors that Capitol will release ALL of
Judy's albums in a special set, but nothing has happened so far. We can
only hope!
MICKEY AND JUDY - BORN IN A TRUNK
All
four of their musicals together. Beautifully packaged with a detailed
booklet about the making of each film as well as the careers of the two
stars. All the songs, cut numbers, and background scores are here, many
in stereo. A real treasure.
These
late 80's Sony releases are hard to find now. Sony did what most of us
Judy fans had been doing for years. They made soundtracks from the
actual film soundtracks, background noise and all. Most of the songs
can be found in the Rhino releases noted above and on the Soundtracks Page.
They are increasingly hard to find, but do pop up on online auction
sites. Aside from "That's Entertainment Part 2" & "Summer Stock" -
these are the only "complete" CD soundtracks of these films available.
